Card study: The Chariot and Stars

Screen Shot 2018-03-24 at 4.51.21 PM.pngA canopy of stars is a common symbol used for this card in many decks. Here these stars have many meanings. Stars represent healing of the soul, and connection to our higher selves. Stars are also way finders. They are maps and means for finding our direction. They help us find our true north.

Stars also represent hope. Think of the star the Wise Men followed to find the Baby Jesus, who represents the hope of the difference one person can make to humanity.

Stars are our dreams. “Reach for the stars,” we are told. Wish upon a star. Stars feel so close and yet so far away at the same time.

We name stars as a means of expressing ownership over something we clearly can never own.

Stars are best viewed in the most remote areas. We can see them clearly without the pollution of human-made lights. We must not have distractions if we are to truly appreciate their beauty and majesty.

Card study: Ace of Swords and Laurel Wreaths

Screen Shot 2018-03-04 at 4.45.58 PM.pngBecoming familiar with symbols is a great way to start to read cards more intuitively. Laurel wreaths appear in many decks. They symbolize great victory in battle. The battle metaphor is an important one to remember when you see these symbols. That is what the experience has most likely felt like to the querent. Often, the journey toward mental clarity has been hard fought for. If we read this card as a new idea or breakthrough, the wreath reminds us that we might have a battle ahead as we implement our idea or our new knowledge.

Card study: Ace of Wands

Screen Shot 2018-03-04 at 4.36.22 PMLet’s take a look at the Ace of Wand again, from the perspective of the Hanson Roberts sweet, fairy-like deck. I love this deck for a gentle read. In fact, I’ve given this deck to my three-year-old son for HIS deck (he likes looking at them occasionally right now and talking about the stories he sees!)

Make sure you’re checking out the backgrounds of cards. They offer just as rich of a story as what goes on in the foreground. Even the seemingly simplest background still carries a story. Castles symbolize not only fortitude, strength, and protection but they also symbolize great achievement. Notice the great achievement is set upon a small mountain. This lets us know that there is much work ahead so harness the energy of this card.

I love how the Hanson Roberts’ wands flower and bloom forth. White flowers represent purity, which is a gentle reminder about our intentions as we move forward with our ambitions. White flowers also represent feminine energy, which adds some nice flow to the masculine energy of the Ace of Wands.
